Dusty Plasmoids Ejected from Silicon by Localized Microwaves - Reflection Analysis
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents an experimental and theoretical investigation of plasmoids, in forms of fireballs and fire-columns, obtained by directing localized microwaves (~0.8 kW at 2.45 GHz) into a solid substrate (e.g. silicon) in a microwave cavity. The plasmoid is blown up from the hotspot created in the silicon substrate to the air atmosphere within the microwave cavity. The experimental diagnostics utilize the microwave reflections from the dusty plasmoid in order to estimate its effective permittivity. Taking into account also prior measurements by optical spectroscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering, the electron density is estimated as 18 -3 3 10 m e n within the fireball.

Observations of Ball-Lightning-Like Plasmoids Ejected from Silicon by Localized Microwaves
This paper presents experimental characterization of plasmoids (fireballs) obtained by directing localized microwave power (<1 kW at 2.45 GHz) onto a silicon-based substrate in a microwave cavity. The plasmoid emerges up from the hotspot created in the solid substrate into the air within the microwave cavity. The experimental diagnostics employed for the fireball characterization in this study ...

This paper presents various aspects of our recent fireball studies and new experimental results of fireballs ejected from various solid and liquid substrates (e.g. copper, salty water, silicon, carbides). Our ongoing experimental analyses of these fireballs include measurements of small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) performed at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), optical spectr...
متن کاملEvidence for nanoparticles in microwave-generated fireballs observed by synchrotron x-ray scattering.
The small-angle x-ray scattering method has been applied to study fireballs ejected into the air from molten hot spots in borosilicate glass by localized microwaves [V. Dikhtyar and E. Jerby, Phys. Rev. Lett. 96 045002 (2006)10.1103/PhysRevLett.96.045002]. The fireball's particle size distribution, density, and decay rate in atmospheric pressure were measured. The results show that the fireball...

Reflection spectra of four porous silicon samples under etching times of 2, 6, 10, and 14 min with current density of 10 mA/cm2 were measured. Reflection spectra behaviors for all samples were the same, but their intensities were different and decreased by increasing the etching time. The similar behavior of reflection spectra could be attributed to the electrolyte solution concentration which ...
